We want you to get to know a little bit about the
Jose Miguel Arciniega Descendants Society
Welcome to our website. JMADS is the acronym for the Jose Miguel Arciniega Descendants Society. Our " SOCIETY" was founded in April of 2012. Our members are descendants of a life long Patriot and Statesman of Texas; Jose Miguel Arciniega. Jose Miguel was also known as Miguel Arciniega 1793-1849 according to officials documents. We descendants refer to him as Jose Miguel, as his baptismal records indicate. Jose Miguel Arciniega was overlooked in Texas History for his contributions to Texas as an elite Military, Governmental and Political Tejano Leader. We discovered many things about him and leading us to form JMADS. It took us now nine long years to follow his footsteps of thirty-six years before gaining understanding of how important Jose Miguel was to the founding of Texas before and after the Mexican Revolutionary War against Spain. Jose Miguel played a major and significant role in developing Texas into what Texas is today. Jose Miguel Arciniega dedicated his life to Texas by enacting laws, colonizing settlements with Stephan F. Austin and supported the Texas Revolution among a longer list of historical contributions. Jose Miguel served and protected all of the citizens of Texas during the sovereign powers over Texas starting with the Vice Royalties of New Spain, Mexico, Republic of Texas and Texas, United States. Jose Miguel literally fell through the cracks of Texas History. Texas History is not written accurately without Jose Miguel Arciniega. Jose Miguel was active for thirty-six years consecutively; not as a Leader for one war, for one historical incident, help build one historical structure. Jose Miguel was a Military, Governmental and Political Leader to establish Texas, not only as a Tejano Leader, but as a founding Leader of Texas.
Jose Miguel owned thousands of acres of land that he purchased and obtained by land grants. A few years before and then after his death his fortune was taken from him. His widow, our great grandmother, Maria Alejandra Losoya de Arciniega and his eight children were driven off of their homestead and became poor. Miguel's legacy was severed and his memory was erased from the History of Texas because he was murdered for his land.
During the nine years JMADS has compiled the facts together to show what Jose Miguel Arciniega had accomplished in his lifetime. Why did it take so long? The answer is simple; we did not know how to do research effectively. We hired specialists in the beginning such as researchers, historians, and a landman. We had to have several documents translated. It became too costly and we did not want to give up so we had to do the research ourselves. We did not have any experience and to make things more difficult, Texas History is very complicated because of the changes of four governments; it was an uphill march. Jose Miguel Arciniega held high esteem positions requiring him to travel all over Texas. In turn, we had to travel all over Texas to collect documents to unveil the truth. We discovered that Jose Miguel owned land in several different counties here in Texas. This is the vast experience JMADS has to teach others how to unfold the truth of family mysteries.
JMADS have created FREE WORKSHOPS to educate families on how to effectively "Do It Yourself" research on genealogy and ancestral lands. These workshops will give you step-by-step instructions on how you can uncover more information about your ancestors than any research company or family tree builders could do for you in Texas. We also offer affordable research services on Genealogy, Ancestral Land Grants, Translation of Old Spanish Documents, and Heirship Certification.
